Making the changes in finance easier to follow

Effortless New Way brings together practical insight on financial services, FinTech, digital assets and the technologies reshaping the industry. The aim is straightforward: make complex developments easier to understand, and explore what they could mean for businesses, markets and the future of finance.

What you get

Three kinds of writing, one purpose

Everything published here is built around the same idea. Explain what is changing, why it matters, and where it could lead.

01

Weekly commentary

This Week in Crypto is published every week and has been for years. It picks out what actually moved the market, what was announced and what the regulatory picture looks like, and puts it in context rather than simply listing it.

02

Explainers and guides

Longer reference pieces that stay useful. What cryptocurrency actually is, why prices move the way they do, how market capitalisation works and what all the terminology means. Written for people starting from nothing.

03

FinTech in practice

Profiles of firms doing something genuinely useful in financial services. Each one sets out the problem being solved, how the solution works and why it matters, rather than repeating a marketing deck.

Paul Fosse

Effortless New Way is written and run by Paul Fosse, a financial services executive with more than 27 years' experience building and transforming businesses.

Paul specialises in identifying commercial opportunities, creating new revenue streams and developing scalable businesses capable of delivering sustainable long-term growth. His career has included establishing and leading global banking, treasury, investment and custody businesses, with a focus on commercial growth, operational transformation, governance and innovation across multiple jurisdictions.

That experience spans financial services, FinTech and digital assets, with a particular interest in how new technology and changing financial infrastructure are reshaping the industry. It is a useful vantage point, because it means seeing both the promise of a new technology and the very practical reasons a large institution might struggle to adopt it.

Paul writes and speaks regularly on these subjects and has received industry recognition, including the Digital Jersey Leadership Award.

How this is written

The rules I hold myself to

Anyone can publish an opinion on this sector. These are the standards that decide what appears here and how it is written.

Education before excitement

There is no shortage of writing designed to make you feel something about this market. The purpose here is to make you understand it. If a piece would work just as well without the explanation in it, it does not get published.

Both sides, every time

Opportunities and risks travel together in financial technology. Where I set out a case for something, I set out the argument against it too, including the parts that are inconvenient for my own view.

Plain English as standard

Jargon is often used to sound authoritative rather than to be precise. Where a technical term is genuinely the right word, it gets defined the first time it appears. Where it is not, it gets cut.

Opinion, clearly labelled

I hold views and I share them, but they are always presented as views and always reasoned. This site is never investment advice, and nothing here should be treated as a recommendation to buy or sell anything.
